Top Five Niagara Falls Attractions
Last summer during a cross-Canada road trip, I found myself in southern Ontario and knew that my visit wouldn't be complete without some time spent at one of the most famous waterfalls in the world: Niagara Falls.
Just 1.5 hours from Toronto, this collection of three waterfalls, including Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, is a breath-taking sight that flows along the USA / Canadian border, with New York State on one shore and Ontario on the other. It's the perfect day-trip destination for families, couples looking for a romantic getaway, or simply the urban explorer chasing down some natural wonder!
So Much To Do ...
As if the mysterious mist and six million cubic feet of water that pour over the falls every minute are not enough to keep any visitor fixated on its beauty, Niagara Falls, also boasts an entire downtown core filled with attractions to fill your day. We couldn't possibly cover them all, but here are our top five!
Tasty Treats ...
Whether you're a fan of chocolate or more of an ice cream connoisseur, Niagara Falls has you covered! On my trip I chose to check out the Hersey's Chocolate World store, boasting a four-storey high chocolate bar and over 7,000 square feet of sweet treats, guaranteed to get your sugar rush started!
Then, it was off to the famous Sweet Jesus ice cream stand for one of their many experimental creations, each designed to put a smile on your face and provide you with a colourful instagram post and insta-story to tell!
So Many Museums ...
If history is one of your interests, then a day may not be long enough to explore each of the unique museums you'll find in the city. It starts with a bit the history you may have learned about in school with the Niagara Falls Museums, then moves on to what you probably learned in some bizarre corner of the internet with Ripley's Believe It of Not. Finally, pop culture is well covered for you with the Movieland Wax Museum and the Rock Legends Wax Museum.
Bird's Eye View ...
A recent addition to the Niagara Falls skyline, the SkyWheel takes you on a ride 175 feet up, overlooking the the main street and giving a unique view of the Falls from your very own climate controlled gondola. It's a 8-12 minute experience you won't want to miss.
Mini Golf Anyone?
Perhaps it's just me, but mini-golf plus dinosaurs just can't be beat, and when you add in an erupting volcano you've got an experience that can't be passed over! This is one of those attractions that, regardless of age, is full of laughter and photo moments - so many pre-historic beasts to pose with. Find it all at Dinosaur Adventure Golf.
The Falls ...
This list would be incomplete without mentioning the centre of attention: Niagara Falls. On my day-trip, I simply walked the length of the observation trail which offers a phenomenal view of each of the falls. However, if you are looking for some additional excitement, I'd recommend either the zipline operated by Wild Play, or the famous boat tour that takes you right into the mist for an up-close and personal experience!
Whatever you choose, there is something fun for everyone in this fantastic destination.
